Communicate Better

Recently, my partner and I were looking for new office space.  We scheduled a meeting with Jennifer, the Facilities Manager at a potential new location.  After giving us a tour, and explaining the “ins” and “outs” of shared work space, she asked us if we had any questions.  My partner had a litany of  questions,  “What specific services are included in the rent?”, “What is the specific breakdown of ‘XYZ’ in the contract?”, and so on.  She then looked at me and I asked, “Can I put up my own pictures on the wall?, “When can we move in?”, Let’s do this!”

We each needed different information to feel comfortable about the decision we were making.  Similarly, we all have very different needs and styles in the way we, not only receive information, but also in the way we give it.  In trying to better understand those needs, and how to more effectively communicate, people have studied the DISC model for decades.  Yet,  few individuals have truly incorporated the styles into their lives and companies have struggled to embed it into their culture.

Instead of needing to memorize empty letters, Take Flight Learning reinvented the DISC model using birds, which are intuitive and memorable.  A year after training, people are unlikely to recall the characteristics of the D, but since it is intuitive that the Eagle is confident, takes charge, and is assertive, they will still be able to apply style wisdom in their daily interactions.

What does this mean for your organization?  We all know that self-aware employees, and those with effective communication skills, are more likely to maximize their talents, navigate challenges, and produce better results than those who lack self-awareness. These individuals work better with their colleagues and promote teamwork at every level of the organization. In return, their companies experience higher engagement, lower turnover, and better results.  Studies repeatedly reveal that the most self-aware people are the most successful people.

Using the Take Flight Learning DISC Model, let Renewed HR help your employees learn about themselves and their coworkers in a way that let’s them apply the styles in a practical manner and that fosters better communication between coworkers, across teams, and throughout your organization.
